Benthic Taxonomists

Last date for application: Mon 22 Mar 2010
Emu Ltd

The marine environmental and survey Company, Emu Limited, has opened a new 20 000sq ft facility in Portchester, near Portsmouth. The site has been fully refurbished to meet specific laboratory, warehousing and office requirements, enabling Emu Ltd to develop and expand their capabilities with respect to the rapidly expanding marine environmental market.

Opened in January 2010 the new benthic laboratory at this site will enable Emu Ltd to significantly increase the benthic sample throughout the forthcoming years with bespoke sieving, sorting, analysis and storage facilities. This will enable Emu Ltd to meet the demanding requirements that will arise from the new round 3 wind farm developments, as well as servicing our existing client base.

To meet this new challenge we are seeking to employ new staff at all levels from highly experienced benthic taxonomists to recent graduates. Experience working within commercial labs, processing marine and estuarine samples for infaunal and epifaunal communities, from the UK and abroad would be desirable. There will be opportunities for junior staff to be trained and more experienced staff will be expected to mentor junior staff members. All applicants will be expected to work to strict internal quality standards to enable Emu Ltd to maintain our long standing participation in the NMBAQC scheme.

The roles will include sample processing, faunal identification, data entry, staff training and the development of new capabilities. The post will primarily be laboratory based; however there are opportunities for fieldwork, data analysis and reporting with Emu Ltd’s ecology team.

Salary is negotiable on the basis of experience. We also offer a range of benefits including a contributory pension, discretionary profit related bonus and 20days holiday rising to 25 (excluding Bank Holidays) in an excellent working environment.

Please apply by sending a CV and covering letter to emurecruitment@handoverhr.co.uk or by post to Emu Limited HR Department, Chase Mill, Winchester Road, Bishops Waltham, Hants, SO32 1AH

Please Note: In order to meet the requirements of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, Emu Limited requires that all applicants have the right to work within the UK.
