Entec is an AMEC company and a leading multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering consultancy with over 750 staff based in 14 UK offices.
This is a permanent post, within a team of consultants in marine/coastal planning and environmental assessment, which in turn forms part of a multi-disciplinary environmental team within the company. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the delivery of Entec’s portfolio of marine and coastal work, which includes: offshore wind farm monitoring; intertidal, benthic and fisheries surveys and assessments; marine conservation and policy advice; water quality assessment; EIAs; obtaining marine consents for renewable energy schemes, coastal outfalls, port development etc; marine/coastal monitoring and marine spatial planning and coastal zone management.
We are looking for a candidate with a sound grasp of marine science, practical experience of marine surveys and ideally a suitable specialism (e.g. physical coastal processes, benthic ecology, offshore fisheries, marine mammals, or water chemistry). The role would require the successful applicant to input to reports on a range of marine-related projects, surveys and assessments, undertake desk studies and organise marine surveys, as well as to input to and prepare proposals.
Focus of the role will be - project delivery, reporting and (depending on experience) project management, survey organisation, health and safety plan preparation, proposal preparation, academic literature reviews, surveying (benthic, fish and intertidal), sample processing and business development.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate at least 2 years’ experience in marine consultancy, ideally with experience of managing marine projects. They will need a sound grasp of marine ecology/science and have experience of undertaking and organising marine surveys. A track record of winning work in a consultancy is desirable. Experience of marine planning and policy would be a big advantage.
Qualifications required - First degree: BSc (Hons) in a relevant marine science or environmental degree. Second degree: Not essential, but ideally a relevant Masters degree in marine resource management or a similar applied marine course.
You should be well organised, flexible, communicator, team worker, self-motivated and effective report writer, willingness and an enthusiasm to learn.
Additionally – a good background in marine ecology/science is essential. Knowledge of UK marine legislation and Habitats Regulations would be highly desirable. Experience of boat charter and marine survey techniques is also highly desirable. GIS experience would be an advantage. Valid UK driving licence required. Flexibility to work unsocial hours if required is essential.
