This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Data/Quality Assurance Manager to join us and play a leading role in developing our internal data management and quality assurance expertise.

About the role Our Evidence, Data and Knowledge Management Team provides the technical expertise and insight to enable the MMO to make sound, reasoned decisions in its marine management functions. As the data and quality assurance processes lead, your expertise and insight will be integral to our ability to make impartial decisions around marine planning, licensing and enforcement functions.

This role is responsible for leading on data and quality assurance processes in the organisation. As part of your duties, you will manage a small team responsible for data, GIS and knowledge management. You will be required to engage with existing forums to ensure that data sharing agreements are in place with key stakeholders across government industry, academia and NGOs and that these are assured to required standards.

The post holder should have relevant experience in his/her field, enabling the MMO to commission relevant technical services, review technical submissions and make decisions that can stand up to external scrutiny. The post holder will represent the MMO to external stakeholders on technical issues, including policy owners from Sponsor Departments on issues such as data and quality assurance.

You must be capable of working within a multidisciplinary environment and understand how the provision of integrated sound evidence can aid policy delivery.

About you You will be educated to PhD or MSc level in a related discipline with significant experience in your chosen field. You will bring a thorough understanding of the issues and challenges in marine data management. You will be a self-starter with an ability to think strategically and laterally to develop quality assurance processes.

The capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment is vital, as you will need to build excellent relations within all the other MMO functions. You will need to demonstrate capability to deliver projects on time. Last but not least, impressive experience of engaging with stakeholders at national or international level is vital.

The Marine Management Organisation is responsible for the majority of activities in English waters. We oversee marine planning to ensure the sustainable development of our coastal and offshore waters, monitor and control sea fishing activity, enforce marine legislation and licensing, and carry out projects that help to protect water environments.
