Benthic Taxonomist
Fugro Survey Limited forms part of Fugro’s Offshore Survey Division and is a market leading Survey company, providing a full range of Survey, Positioning and Construction Support services in North West Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean.
We require additional skilled, motivated and flexible personnel to add to our core staff of personnel to meet the growing demands of an extended fleet of Fugro’s own vessels, both in the UK and worldwide, as well as client vessels used for survey operations.
Fugro Survey Ltd are seeking to recruit experienced personnel to join the Environmental Survey department. Applications are invited for the following full-time position based in our Great Yarmouth office:
A benthic taxonomist is required to join a growing team of taxonomists within a very successful and expanding department. Fugro Survey’s taxonomists specialise in macrobenthic identification and have a depth of experience from coastal and estuarine waters around the UK and internationally. The laboratory also has extensive experience in processing samples from deep water environments such as the Faeroes-Shetland channel, and the Mediterranean Sea.
The primary role will be to undertake taxonomic identification of benthic samples from around the UK and international waters together with the training of other laboratory staff in basic and advanced benthic taxonomy. Other key responsibilities include participation in AQC schemes, compilation of data for statistical processing and assisting in the interpretation and evaluation of data for report production. The role will also allow the successful candidate to grow in other areas of interest such as habitat mapping involving geophysical and photographic interpretation, report writing and offshore survey work.
Whilst over 2 years taxonomic experience is preferred candidates will be considered with a lower level of experience. Exceptional candidates will be considered for a more senior position.
