Making a valued contribution to our marine science unit, you’ll enjoy a variety of team-based and solo duties. It’s all about surveying and monitoring the marine environment in Scotland, in order to protect and preserve it for generations to come. Providing practical support to a range of surveys in intertidal and near-shore environments, you’ll be involved in everything from equipment preparation, through sample collection, to data logging using Excel and specialist software. You’ll be involved in sampling and analysis of marine invertebrates and estuarine fish, and undertaking analysis of benthic sediments.

To join us, you’ll need to be a team player with the ability to communicate scientific information clearly to a non-specialist audience, both in person and in writing. We’ll expect you to be qualified to HND level ideally in a subject with a focus on environmental science or marine ecology. We would like you to have some practical marine ecology experience including field and laboratory work. Experience of small boats or research vessels, and/or microscopy and the processing of marine biology samples will be a definite advantage. You’ll certainly demonstrate some data entry, numerical and computational skills.
