Marine Ecological Surveys Ltd (MESL) provides high quality scientific services to industry and the public sector. The services offer by MESL include including survey, taxonomy and consultancy. This includes EIA related work, supporting our clients in the full project life cycle from the field to the licensing process; as well as research and policy development for Government departments and agencies.

We are seeking to appoint a senior benthic ecologist to meet the needs of our growing business. The successful applicant will join the senior management team within MESL and will make an active contribution towards the growth of the company.

The successful applicant will combine an excellent standard of ecological knowledge together with the ability to design surveys, analyse data, produce technical reports and apply knowledge in benthic ecology to the wider development of policy and research. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the business. The preferred candidate will be a dynamic, self-starting individual with experience in business development and project management and an aptitude for staff management. They will be commercially aware, ensuring that their activities and those of staff working beneath them are performed effectively, to the standard required and in accordance with deadlines and budgets. It will be essential to have a strong client focus and they will be comfortable presenting findings at meetings and conferences. There may also be a need to undertake activities relating to other parts of the business as and when required. The successful candidate must have a degree in marine biology or equivalent, a substantial level of experience in the UK, a high level of expertise in benthic analysis and reporting and excellent communication and management skills.
