WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive. Best known as the world's leading conservation body, we're also committed to safeguarding the natural world through tackling the global threat of climate change. And by helping to change the way we live, we'll ease pressure on natural resources.

We’re looking for someone to lead a team to help us protect and restore our beautiful British rivers. Our rivers and streams support our lifestyles, supplying the freshwater on which we all rely. They are also home to a wonderful array of wildlife. But only a quarter of these important habitats are currently in good ecological health.

In response, WWF’s UK Rivers programme focuses on influencing the development and implementation of better public policy – with the EU Water Framework Directive at its heart. It is also introducing innovative approaches for private sector water stewardship, working with a range of companies to reduce risks to business and to freshwater habitats.

We’re looking for someone with excellent influencing and relationship-building skills to ensure delivery of our policy objectives. Leading our engagement with government, companies, NGOs and others, you’ll also line manage one programme officer, guide the efforts of several other colleagues and oversee a budget of around £500,000 a year. You’ll also have responsibility for the work plan including the delivery of exemplar projects to help underpin our policy work.

An outstanding communicator with a track record in building strong relationships with influential people, you’ll also need excellent project management skills, including experience of programme design and management within the water and/or environmental sectors. Strong analytical and strategic planning skills are essential, and ideally you should have experience of line managing staff.
